2. CONTESTING ELECTRICITY RIGHTS FOR MILLIONS OF CONSUMERS
The electricity company requested and perked a flat minumum rate for purchase of electricity token to all its consumers via announcemnt on notice board. Consumers struggle through nose to ab able to meet up paying the requested minimum perchase before they can recharge their meters and have electricity supply. This went on for so long without consumers knowing that the action is totally violation till we took it up and challenge as abuse of consumers right to choice.
We wrote the electricity company demanding them to discontinue with the abuse, which they ignored. When then petitoned them to Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, and got a ruling against the electric company on unlawful and unfair practices. The ruling mandate the reversal for consumers to purchase at any amount they so wish to and can afford to.
3. SDG – HOLDING GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE FOR WATER FOR SCHOOL GILRS
We went for a program at Governement Girls Secondary School, to educate them on SDGs and intersection with their everyday living now and in future. When we got to SDG 6, the girls began to ask us questions upon questions. Why they do have toilets in their school, and girls school with over 1,000 students for that matter? If they will have to wait till 2030 before toilet will be built for them and so much more.
After the event, we forwarded a letter of complaint to the Government drawing their attention to it and demanding for construction of borehole, toilets with tap and wash hand basin for the school. Govenemnt responded and have since built same as demanded for the school girls and school enrollemnt and attendance have increased and improved at the school.
